30 Rock and The Office = highlight of my day

•something i accomplished today:  put up some really cute canopies in the girls’ room.

•something i screwed up today: dropped a bowl of peas on the kitchen floor.  still haven’t cleaned it up because i have no idea where the dustpan is.

•something fun i did with the kids: played tag in the yard.  for not nearly long enough.

•something funny or cute one of my kids did or said:  last night i checked on the girls around 10:30 before i went to bed.  layne was out cold, spread eagle on her back in the middle of the floor.

•something yummy i ate today: i ate like a kid today.  honey nut cheerios, chocolate chip pancakes, fish sticks, applesauce, macaroni&cheese (not all at once)

•something i read today:  few blog posts.  thank you Google reader.

•a tv show or movie i watched today: the office and 30 rock.  30 rock is my JAM.  i will be so so so so sad when it doesn’t come on anymore.

•something i did today that i hardly ever do:  dropped a glass bowl on the floor.

something i did today that i do every day:  filled a sippy cup like 16 times.

•something i am thankful for right now:  our new DIGS!!  we are loving being in a house!

7:12 AM

i should probably be waking up the girls right now, but i just wanted to check in quickly.

so, we are moving this week.  literally.  every time ryan or i goes over to the new place we take a box or two or a basket of toys or a metal star from the wall (harper was upset by that one and promptly told me that the wall wasn’t pretty anymore).  our current house is a WRECK and i’ve given up on trying to have it not be.  i’m keeping it clean (wiping the counters, sweeping the floors), but not neat.  reinforcements arrive on thursday night so starting friday morning we should be getting quite a bit done.  hoping that by monday i’ll be almost unpacked and that by the end of next week i’ll be somewhat organized.

the whole concept of the girls living in a HOUSE for the first time is cool.  yesterday evening i did a little painting and ryan met us over there and brought pizza.  we had a picnic on a dropcloth.  i was so annoyed i didn’t have my camera because it was one of those moments when i thought, “i want this image burned on my brain.”  super special family picture.  anyway, as we were leaving, harper ran out to the mailbox, opened it and said, “no mail today!”  i was thinking how exciting that must be for her….for her entire life we’ve gotten our mail out of a little silver hole with a door.

this whole process is very exciting to me (i swear i have a huge smile on my face every time i’m packing a box), so i’m not in a rush to have it overwith, but there are alot of things that i’m looking forward to in the next 6 months or so, so i won’t mind when the moving in part is done:

  • starting up tuesday night Bible study again with some of my favorite women (and we’re reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan, which is a book i’ve been dying to get through)
  • assisting my talented friend Kat Braman at several weddings
  • shooting one of my own next month
  • cooler weather (which feels like it’s already started, although i’m sure i’m being deceived somehow)
  • Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas (we’ll get to have lights outside this year!)
  • Harper learning to read…i’m expecting to see her doing some probably before Christmas…she is flying through everything she’s being taught right now
  • so so so excited to start painting for the Homespun Chic Marketplace i’m participating in in April.  it’s always been a dream of mine to take part in a “craft fair/art show”, and this one seems like it’ll be really good.  i have big plans and in the new house i have an actual workspace.  SO STOKED to get some things on canvas.  (if you want to see some of my past works, you can go to my other blog, scroll to the bottom and click on “paintings”.)  several of my friends who have Etsy shops are doing it too, so that makes it extra fun and exciting.
  • watching Maitland learn to sit up and crawl….okay let’s be honest: i’m only excited about the sitting up part.  he can stay on his bottom for 6 months for all i care.  haha

it’s now 7:30 and my girls really need to be up!  gotta run.

guess what???

we’re moving!  in 8 days!!

i am excited, but I AM TIRED.  no time or energy to say much.  sorry.

tired. thus, wordless wednesday.

[but first, a word or two:  most of these pictures are absolutely horrible either of me or in general.  harper recently figured out how to use the camera (sort-of) so that’s what most of these are.]

the search continues…

STILL haven’t found a new  place to live.  the search is all-consuming.  if i’m not on my computer looking at properties, than i am thinking about them, or going to see them (mostly thinking about them).  i haven’t been distracted easily from this, and it’s getting annoying.  i’m sure my kids are sick of seeing me on the computer.  had a photo session this morning and soccer tonight and it was SUPER nice to blow off some steam and forget about life for a little while.

i owe the four of you a catch-up post.  this past weekend was my annual girls’ weekend in ponce inlet.  we do it every year… sadly this year was the first without our dear sarah who had the nerve to move to south africa and pursue justice and kindness and other junk like that.  (braggis, if you’re reading this, we did notice you weren’t there but we all know you’re not a regular.  and we know you too pursue justice and kindness, only from the wilds of northern california.)

if you don't already know, don't ask about the matching shirts.

about two hours before we (maitland and i) left on friday, i got the news that the sweet rental house we were crossing our fingers for had gone to someone else.  i was super upset about it…so much so that I FORGOT MY SUITCASE.  i didn’t even realize it until i was in the room getting baby’s bed set-up and thought, “now where is the sheet for the pack-n-play?”  luckily a total stranger picked up my bag and brought it to me thanks to the incredible power of Facebook (amy knew a girl who had a fiance making the drive that day).  i also had a stomach virus all day on saturday so i missed out on alot of incredible food.  however, i made up for it on sunday and was fortunate to get to know these pillow cookies (one of the richest things i’ve ever put in my mouth…amy once again adding to the quality of my life/weekend):

yes, that is a BROWNIE in the middle of an already amazing choc chip cookie.

in other news, we’ve started a new reward system with the kids.  well, we started it a few weeks ago.  anytime an adult catches the girls doing anything they (the adult) deem “bean-worthy”, the child gets to take a bean from the bowl and put it into the jar.  when the jar is full, we go to chuck e. cheese.  no idea how harper knows what chuck e. cheese’s is, but she does.  and the motivation is doing it’s job.  this week they passed the small line at the bottom of the jar so they got a small reward: family trip to Annie’s (italian ice) after dinner.

i wish i got a bean for every rental property ad i read.

little letters

dear amazing rental house:  i wanted you from the second i opened your front door.  i hope you want me too.  i promise i would be really really nice to you.  please let me know soon if we can live there.

dear tina fey:  thanks for making me feel better about my skinny lips.  you are the coolest (date night was hilarious)!

dear soccer: OH HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU!  tonight was a blast, but holy cow i am out of shape.  i promise to do better next week.

dear german girl who lives in our building:  please forgive me.  when i told you your hair was so pretty it looked like a wig, i had no clue that it really WAS a wig.  i still think you’re really cute and nice.

dear layne:  since you know what it feels like now, maybe next time you’re about to puke you could give me some type of tiny warning.  i’m so sorry that you didn’t feel good today.

dear playground:  i’m so sorry i let my daughter puke all over you.  three times.  she gave me no indication that she wasn’t feeling well.  and i’m also sorry that i just basically ran to my car and didn’t rinse you off or anything.  maybe next time i see you you could tell me what terrible things the other moms said about me after i left.
