not as much of a slacker as you’d think

yes, it’s been a full week since my last post, but i haven’t been sitting around.

  7. photographed a couple and their sweet baby boy
  8. atteneded/photographed an awesome hyms concert  (i took 1131 pictures in 2 days!)

top ten tuesday

oh yeah! you know you missed it.  🙂  i think my top tens have been dead for about a year now…that’s long enough.

top ten reason why i love coming to visit my parents in tallahassee (in no particular order):

  1. seeing my parents’ handwriting all over the house (i know this is wierd, but i just like seeing it on grocery lists and post-it notes and what-not)
  2. mom makes fruit jello waaay better than i do.
  3. my kids think this place is a theme park
  4. love that i still know where everything is (batteries and a screwdriver, for example)
  5. the “hidden” key (that everyone knows about)
  6. the dogs (big, hairy, loud, slobbery.  love them.)
  7. being here means that the car trip here is over (i barely made it).
  8. i’m 30 years old and this house still very much feels like home (mom & dad, please don’t ever move!)
  9. fridge/pantry/freezer is always full of yummy stuff (most of which is probably meant for my kids…but i don’t care)
  10. i always sleep GREAT

i love food.

and i love to eat.  and i love this “guy” because he loves it just as much as i do.

i don’t watch alot of cooking shows, but diners, drive-ins, and dives has become a close second to paula deen (formerly the only cooking show i could tolerate).  “triple d” isn’t really about cooking…it’s about eating.  and it’s about eating greasy, fatty, DELICIOUS food in large portions.  i don’t watch every episode, i don’t have it on my dvr list of things to record, but if i’m flipping channels and it’s on, i’ll stop every time.  it’s almost punishment to watch because it just makes ME want to take that huge drippy greasy bite that guy just ate, but i watch it anyway.

anyone else a fan?

me, just smaller (and/or dorkier)

i’ve had these pictures on my computer for a few years, but have never thought about posting them on my blog.  thought some of you might get a kick out of them.

Cricut Great Escape Contest

got this from amy‘s blog:  This is contest entry for those crazy folks at TodaysMama and Cricut. Be sure to check out Cricut’s cool new cartridges and the chance at $30,000 in travel for you and your friends at the Great Gypsy Escape site!

my answers:

 1. If you could escape to anywhere in the world where would it be? australia.  only place that i REALLY want to go that i’ve never been

2. What song do you play when you are by yourself in the car? honestly, anything sung in an adult’s voice or a song that doesn’t include words like “bop” or “farm” is nice…

3. If you had a night to yourself, and money was no object, what would you do?  probably go to a nice dinner and a show or sporting event (front-row seats) with my husband, and then stay in a nice hotel

4. What is your guilty pleasure? a pleasure that i feel guilty about alot is Facebook.  it is a time trashcan

5. What is the farthest place you have traveled away from your home? this was amy’s answer, but mine is the same because we were together on both trips:  What’s farther from Florida…Prague or Greece?

6. Last book that you couldn’t put down? The Brothers K by David James Duncan

7. When you want to escape into another time, what movie do you watch? Back to the Future…haha, just kidding.  i would probably have to say Grease or maybe Far and Away

8. What is your favorite local escape?  the playground at Chick-fil-A on Northlake

9. How do you escape on a budget?  don’t escape too far…for me “escape” really just means a break.  i don’t necessarily have to get away from anything…although sometimes it is nice just to go to the grocery store by myself.

10. Best food you’ve ever had while on vacation.  gelato in Italy, an AMAZING buffet at the bellagio in vegas, all-you-can-eat alaskan king crab on our honeymoon cruise in alaska

Now it’s your turn! Post and answer the meme questions on your blog and then send a link to your post to with “Cricut Meme” in the subject line.

harper and layne are really starting to have a relationship.  yes, they still get on each other’s nerves (daily), but most of the time they just get a kick out of each other.  i think harper is really starting to learn that she can show layne something and layne can learn and do it too….fun!  here are two sister shots from today:

(please don’t think bad of me that layne is barefoot and practically naked in the hall.  we were just on our way back in from the beach…i’d carried her in from the car, but harper’s new thing is “leading” layne down the hall.)

September 14, 2009

i’m blushing.

i just watched an online clip of kanye west jerking the microphone out of taylor swift’s hands AS she was giving her acceptance speech for winning “best female video”.  i don’t watch the VMA’s becuase anything worth seeing will end up on youtube anyway.  if y’all haven’t heard about this, you need to google it.  my face got hot at the end.  i feel so bad for taylor swift!  kanye really owes her an apology (and beyonce’ too…he made her look bad).

we had a great weekend with friends over in boca grande.  much of that “great” was thanks to my MIL and SIL who kept the kids for us.  it was a much-needed break.  on saturday i stayed in bed until 9:00.  yesterday i was in bed until 10:00!  i think it’s been years since that’s happened.  ryan spent most of his time away on the boat with all the guys.  i spent my time laying by the pool, exploring the tiny downtown, watching several storms roll in and do their business, watching football on mute, talking with the ladies, and eating crap (no joke: all i had to eat yesterday was 3 sausage balls, cake & ice cream, and 10 chicken mcnuggets.  i was STARVING when i woke up this morning).

not many plans for this week.  right now i’m still in my pajamas…spent the morning doing breakfast, unloading/loading the dishwasher, doing laundry, and just being with my girls…we missed each other!  when layne’s up from her nap we’ll do lunch then head out to get some errands done.  tonight we’re doing a taco night in honor of ryan and jenny, whose baby is due THIS WEEK!!  so exciting.

can’t see the forest for the trees

i was just about to log on and post about how my life is boring right now.  my house is a wreck.  last night my kids had a random dinner of buttered noodles (YUM!), peas, yogurt, and black olives.  one of our suitcases from last weekend still has folded clothes in it.  the other is empty and has been sitting in the floor of my closet since tuesday.  layne was really clingy today – er – lately.

i really don’t have anything exciting to blog about so i was just about to do a whiney post about all of the above.  i feel like every time that is the case, i take 5 minutes to read some random blogs i’ve never read before (through links on other strangers’ pages).  i just read 3 blogs that all had something to do with a child or baby dying.

i needed that.

i’m so so so blessed and i need to remember it…even when there are smashed black beans all over my floor or when i realize haven’t shaved my legs in a week.  THE LITTLE THINGS DON’T MATTER.

September 8, 2009

just got back from my annual girls’ weekend, except this year it was a little different.  if you want to hear more about the weekend or more about “who we are”, read amy’s post.

it was alot of fun, but i have to say that i did miss the abundance of nothing-but-girls time.  i feel like i spent a little too much time distracted by my family (that sounds terrible, but i’m just being honest).  yes, it was fun to have my husband see/experience some of what he always hears about, and it was super fun to watch my girls play with shanel’s kids, but…i don’t really feel like i had a girls’ weekend at all, actually.  i’m very thankful that we did it, but just wish i could’ve had more time to veg out and just talk…we were a tad bit too busy.

one great thing about having so many people around is that it didn’t allow for a ridiculous amount of picture-taking (if you know me, you know having my picture taken isn’t one of my favorite ways to spend time).  however, here are a few of my favorites (at the end of the weekend, we all upload our photos to one computer and make CD’s so we can take them home).
