I

icing:  the best part of any cake, cupcake, or cookie.  my favorites are publix vanilla buttercream or duncan hines devil’s food (straight out of the jar).  my icing advice: when you’re eating a big cupcake with lots of icing, break the bottom part in half horizontally and place the bottom part on top of the icing…even distribution and less mustache.

invigorating apricot scrub:  i know an adjective shouldn’t count for the “I”, but that’s really what it says on the tube.  i love st. ives for making this stuff…i’ve used it in the shower since junior high and i think it really works (smooths and cleans skin).  the only drawback about it is that it’s kind of hard to use if you’re washing your face in the sink.  right now ryan and i have the target brand….not as good as the real thing, but close.  i always use the excess on the my fingers to scrub my palms…makes them feel so smooth.

adventures in baby”sitting”

two harper stories that i’ve been dying to post:

1) the other night in the bathtub, i noticed harper standing up staring down at her “privates”.  i asked her what she was doing and she said “pee-pee”.  i said, “oh, you’re going pee-pee?”.  she said, “yeah.  bye bye pee-pee.”  as she said this, she bent over and waved good-bye to the pee-pee.  it was absolutely hilarious…had me laughing out loud for a good 5 mintues.

2) on thursday, harper woke up screaming about 30 mintues into her nap.  she is a really good napper, so this was a little strange.  i went in to see what was wrong and the only thing i could figure out was that she couldn’t find her binky.  i found it for her and gave it to her and left.  she cried for about 5 more minutes and then i didn’t hear anything else for another almost 2 hours.  i had to go in and get her up because it was after 4pm and i didn’t want her sleeping any longer.  she was awake and gave me this weird look when i turned on her light.  i walked over to the crib and i saw this:

small puke

at first i thought it was little pieces of poop, but then i saw her diaper was still on correctly.  then i realized it was raisins and some other things she had thrown up (and at the same time i realized that this kid does not chew her food!).  i thought, “man, that’s a really small puke for it to smell so bad.”  and then with a small glance to the right, i saw this:

large puke

EW. GROSS. DISGUSTING.

i was so proud of myself for not adding to the mess as i cleaned it up.

H

hot chocolate:  we finally have a cold front!  yahoo!  so, the only “h” i could think of is a hot delicious drink.  i like it with 4 or 5 big marshmallows and a spoon to fish them out with after they’re halfway dissolved.

what could be better?

…than FREE Chick-fil-A?!

one of the guys in ryan’s bible study is the new owner/operator of the new chick-fil-a on northlake.  it opens on thursday, but tonight was what they call thier “premiere night”.  it was an invitation only event where they had giveaways, free food, and more free food.  the boys cancelled bible study tonight and decided to fellowship over free eats.  harper’s been up late for 4 nights in a row now, so i almost had to skip it, but we decided to “tough it out” and it was well worth the trip.  chick-fil-a really is such a cool company.  the premiere night was hosted by owner/operators of other restaurants…from all over.  they were all dressed up in business attire.  the restaurant, of course, was spotless, including the brand new playground (harper had a blast).  there was even a red carpet taped to the sidewalk outside the door.  they were giving kitchen tours.  we got drinks, nuggets, fries, sandwiches, a dessert platter, milkshakes, and coupons for more free food.  all the bible study guys/wives sat in one corner together.  what could be better than free food with friends?!  thanks, neil!

G

grapes of wrath:  one of my favorite books.  it’s pretty depressing, but teaches that your family really is the most important “possession” you can have.

gidget:  my sister and i LOVED watching the gidget movies when we were growing up.  i SO wanted to be her.

green:  it may be a little wierd for an adult to have a favorite color, but i do.  i am drawn to green.  i don’t know what that says about my personality, but if given a choice of a palette of colors, i’ll pick the green every time.

mission accomplished.

yay!  it’s december 1st.  i ate cookies and a twinkie today!!  yay!!  actually, to be completely honest, i ate some cookie dough last night…ryan let me off a little early.  he had two cokes today and enjoyed them thouroughly.  he also weighed himself at the grocery store and discovered that he lost 4 pounds in november.  just from not drinking soda…he still ate ice cream and pizza and everything else we normally eat.  i’m proud of him because i think he wants to keep going…guess he discovered that he can drink beer instead of soda and it’s not as bad for him.  🙂

not sure how much weight i lost…haven’t weighed myself since the 15th.  my pants aren’t super loose or anything, but i don’t really care.  what i got out of our “bet” was this:  i have new eyes when it comes to how much sugar i really was eating.  i had no idea how much it was a part of my life…always thinking about finding something sweet or looking forward to an event/restaurant because of the dessert.  yes, i definitely missed the junk food, and yes, i will definitely have my share of christmas tree cakes and sugar cookies this month, but i think i may have learned that i don’t “need” it like i thought i did.  half-way through the month i started wishing i had been doing a fast…if you’re supposed to pray every time you miss what you’ve given up, i would’ve been doing a lot of talkin’ to the Lord!

peter, peter…

so a few weeks back, i wrote a post and included this picture:

give thanks

on the left-hand side, you’ll notice a tray of candles and two small pumpkins (the bigger one is hiding in the back).  harper picked those pumpkins out and she really likes looking at them and playing with them.  i put up my christmas decorations this week, so the fall candle display came down, as did the pumpkins.  because harper liked playing with them so much, and they hadn’t in the least bit started to go bad, i couldn’t bear to throw them away.

yesterday i was gone for about three hours.  i chose to leave the dog out…he’s been seemingly trustworthy lately when left alone.  he chose to jump on the table and knock several things onto the floor…two of which were the pumpkins.  when i got home, all that was left of the baby pumpkin was 4 seeds and some tiny shards of orange shell.  i walked around the house for 5 minutes looking for that pumpkin because i was in total disbelief that he literally ate the entire pumpkin.  i’m still in disbelief that there was no diahrea afterward…just orange polka-dotted poop…with strings in it.  🙂

too bad opie’s name doesn’t sound like peter.

F

so, “F” has been tough, too.  here’s all i could come up with…

friday night lights:  i LOVE this show.  love it.  i DVR it and watch two in a row so it’s like watching a movie.  ryan doesn’t watch it, so i save it up for my alone/free time (which is very rare).  it is a special treat.  it might as well be a soap opera, but i don’t care.  i call it an athletic drama.  if you haven’t seen it…don’t start watching it now…you won’t appreciate it as much.  rent the first season and go from there.

fried food (do i get double points for that one?): of course i love food and eating in general (i almost used that one for “E”), but fried foods are one of my favorite categories.  french fries (cheeburger cheeburger are my favorite), fried chicken (popeyes w/biscuits), doughnuts, fish & chips (the best was in shakespeare’s hometown in england, statford-upon-avon), and then there’s the amazing monte cristo sandwich at bennigan’s.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11
