yes, it’s been a full week since my last post, but i haven’t been sitting around.
here’s a list of 10 things that have kept me away from wordpress over the past week:
- drove from tallahassee to orlando with harper (layne stayed in tallahassee)
- flew from orlando to springfield, MO
- took harper to her first hibachi dinner (courtesy of my generous brother and sister-in-law)
- took harper (and my nephew owen) to barnes & noble to meet maisy the mouse
- photographed a 90 year old’s birthday party
- photographed a wedding reception for a couple who got married at the top of the Sears tower in April
- photographed a couple and their sweet baby boy
- atteneded/photographed an awesome hyms concert (i took 1131 pictures in 2 days!)
- flew back to orlando (where we were reunited with layne)
- drove home.
WHEW!!
oh yeah! you know you missed it. 
i think my top tens have been dead for about a year now…that’s long enough.
top ten reason why i love coming to visit my parents in tallahassee (in no particular order):
- seeing my parents’ handwriting all over the house (i know this is wierd, but i just like seeing it on grocery lists and post-it notes and what-not)
- mom makes fruit jello waaay better than i do.
- my kids think this place is a theme park
- love that i still know where everything is (batteries and a screwdriver, for example)
- the “hidden” key (that everyone knows about)
- the dogs (big, hairy, loud, slobbery. love them.)
- being here means that the car trip here is over (i barely made it).
- i’m 30 years old and this house still very much feels like home (mom & dad, please don’t ever move!)
- fridge/pantry/freezer is always full of yummy stuff (most of which is probably meant for my kids…but i don’t care)
- i always sleep GREAT

1. If you could escape to anywhere in the world where would it be? australia. only place that i REALLY want to go that i’ve never been
2. What song do you play when you are by yourself in the car? honestly, anything sung in an adult’s voice or a song that doesn’t include words like “bop” or “farm” is nice…
3. If you had a night to yourself, and money was no object, what would you do? probably go to a nice dinner and a show or sporting event (front-row seats) with my husband, and then stay in a nice hotel
4. What is your guilty pleasure? a pleasure that i feel guilty about alot is Facebook. it is a time trashcan
5. What is the farthest place you have traveled away from your home? this was amy’s answer, but mine is the same because we were together on both trips: What’s farther from Florida…Prague or Greece?
6. Last book that you couldn’t put down? The Brothers K by David James Duncan
7. When you want to escape into another time, what movie do you watch? Back to the Future…haha, just kidding. i would probably have to say Grease or maybe Far and Away
8. What is your favorite local escape? the playground at Chick-fil-A on Northlake
9. How do you escape on a budget? don’t escape too far…for me “escape” really just means a break. i don’t necessarily have to get away from anything…although sometimes it is nice just to go to the grocery store by myself.
10. Best food you’ve ever had while on vacation. gelato in Italy, an AMAZING buffet at the bellagio in vegas, all-you-can-eat alaskan king crab on our honeymoon cruise in alaska

here are some lists about my day today. (it was one of those “i don’t feel like i accomplished much except feeding and caring for my children” days, so i thought i’d do this to give it a little more substance in my mind.)

- folded and put away a load of clothes (to do both in the same day is sometimes a big deal for me)
- made and cleaned up 3 meals for my kids and me
- took the girls to the pool
- took a short nap
- ran 2 1/2 miles at the gym
- wrote a verse on the kitchen chalkboard: “a gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger.” can’t remember the address…proverbs something.
- swept the floor
- packed the girls’ clothes for this weekend

moon, moon, moon my nightlight…
just sang that to harper as i tucked her in almost AN HOUR EARLY!! woo-hoo! she had no nap today, which was a bummer up until now when it’s 7:30 and both girls are asleep already. ryan’s at soccer and i have a ton of cleaning/picking up/putting away to get done, but i figured i should get a blog in before i get too distracted.
some things annoying me lately:
- we bought new fixtures for both our bathrooms two weeks ago and so far neither one of us has had the energy to think about starting to switch the old ones out. if something sits long enough in the same spot, both and ryan and i are terrible about not noticing it anymore.
- on monday morning we headed over to bagel boyz before getting groceries. both girls happily ate with me at the table, harper from her “basket”, layne off the table, like usual. when we were done, a man called me over and said (as nicely as could be), “do me a favor. don’t let your baby eat off the table. they clean those things with pesticides and chemicals.” maybe he’s right…i acted like he was, but i was still annoyed. and i’ll still let her eat off the table until she learns to eat off a plate. (ps. best bacon i’ve had in years.)
- still sick of the fuss everyone makes over adam on Idol. i hated his performance of “one” last night and was so annoyed how the judges were all so blown away. yes, the guy can sing. but is he danny gokey? NO.
- i STILL have not dealt with the fact that our double-stroller doesn’t fold down. i called several months ago and graco said they’d be happy to fix or replace it as long as i paid for the shipping. that would be a really really big box (keep in mind it doesn’t fold). a friend at church told me to call again and demand free shipping. i’ve been putting it off and putting it off. i need to just bite the bullet because the only use the stroller gets is to and from the gym, which is about 100 yards away.
reasons why i’m happy:
- HIS MERCIES ARE EVERLASTING. THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING.
- last night i had a photo gig and was on my way home around 9:00. stopped for ice cream. they were out of all our favorite blue bell flavors, so i went with the buy one get one item: fat boy ice cream sandwiches. holy cow. i will be a fat boy if i keep buying them. i ate two last night in about 4 minutes.
- chick-fil-a for lunch today and used my green receipt. woo-hoo! who knows what i’m talking about???
- i ran 4 miles on the treadmill this morning and never dipped below an 8 1/2 minute mile.
- i’m getting to know my new camera…and i like it!

- spent $15 on balloons and $28 on a cake that left us nothing to take home! i love publix, but they seriously rip you off with the character cakes!
- made pancakes for my family and niece and nephew
- got a new faucet in the kitchen! i love it! i want to post a picture later in the week…i have a funny [i'm an idiot] story to go along with it…
- fought back tears all day long because i CANNOT BELIEVE that harper is three years old!
- had a great day spent with friends and family…enjoying each other and celebrating the life of my precious little girl
- wore a shirt that had previously been too small (yay!)
- realized my nail polish is chipping badly again and now i remember why i never take the time to put it on
- put a bow in layne’s hair for the first time…she’s finally growing something up there!

- sleep in tomorrow
- hire a maid
- figure out how to be really good at “call of duty”, my husband’s favorite ps3 game…it would be so fun to play with him and actually be competitive
- get a pedicure once a week…or even every other week
- get my 1999 body back
- get through this HUGE pile of receipts on the computer desk
- go to the beach and just lie on a chair a read and/or sleep
